Director Position Overview

We are an established and dynamic organization operating three programs; Camp Carvela, Camp Lookout, and Crystalaire Adventures and are looking to expand our team by hiring an energetic, positive and self-motivated director. This person would ideally bring their own experiences and industry knowledge to augment and enhance our current leadership team. We are looking for someone who would be interested in a long-term career position who will add insightful and new ideas, and help us shape our next generation of campers. 

 

This position will be full-time, year-round, and require residency in Michigan and on site from May-August annually.

Year Round Responsibilities

During the non-summer months, this position’s responsibilities will include preparing for the following summer by being involved in the marketing, advertising and development of the program while also being responsible for off-season program development. We are looking to expand the impact we have on our community throughout the year by building new dynamic and meaningful programs.  


Summer Responsibilities

This position would be mainly focused on managing day-to-day operations, in conjunction with our leadership team, of one of our summer camp programs including preparing the camps for the summer, further developing our staff training curriculum, managing summer staff, and ensuring a safe, meaningful and positive environment for all. 

 

Other summer responsibilities will include: 

  • Oversight of a progressive camp environment while leading the innovation of new programs, activities, events, and connections. 

  • Supervise and provide guidance to all on-site camp staff including camp counselors, health officers, and kitchen staff. 

  • Work closely and collaborate with fellow camp directors and administration. 

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a seasonal-staff collaboratively with fellow directors. 

  • Develop an innovative curriculum in the areas of leadership development, character development, and outdoor education.

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing and executing diverse programming for an organization or institution

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role

  • Experience working in an independent or self-led role

  • Must feel confident making decisions, problem solving, and taking initiative with new ideas 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Ability to relocate to one of our summer camps in Traverse City/Frankfort, MI from May-August annually

  • Hold or be willing to acquire CPR, AED and First Aid Certification

 

Benefits

  • Salary package $65,000 - $75,000

  • Housing in Northern Michigan if needed
